We are a 160 acre property , 17 kilometres from Gatton Queensland which is in the Lockyer Valley. The property is on a mountaIN side and has a lot of diverse plants and wildlife.
It has just had its first serious earthworks to retain water on the property to slow down the water loss down the mountain and to capture as much water as we can for the most amount of time hence we placed 5 swales on contour with a 3 tonne excavator over three quarters of an acre and 80 cm wide and 100 cm deep.
These collected 2 feet of water with a downpour of 12.8 mm of rain.
we now have chickens and guinea fowl that manure our food forests as well as worm farms and fish to eat so are getting there in a passive way with a on off solar system and wind turbine,
there is a great 10 gig a litre dam at the top of the mountain that boasts a great diving board kindly built by a great guy rusty thomson on his travels to Qld from the Uk and it is always an adventure to find our way up the mountain to have a swim in our great big natural swimming hole.
The house is a series of 3 sea containers in a ushape and a stone room attached picked and built from material on the immediate area.this area contains 5 bedroom and a project room as well as 2 bathroom and kitchen and pantry as well as outdoor areas that are still in the making.
We have television that runs from solar and internet from a satellite dish that goves us wifi.
thanks to ben Fletcher also from the Uk and travelling buddy of Thomas we now have 40000 litres of rain as well as roofs that collect 290000 litres from the surface area
should we have that many water tanks.
There is an abundance of wildlfe on the property from bandicoots to brown falcons and pretty faced wallabies to pythons and bush turkeys.
